On this tragic day at the Boston Marathon, explosions struck killing two innocent people and injuring dozens. The explosives were located near the finish line about 550 metres apart.

Google launched the Person Finder web tool after the incident in order to update families and friends on individuals and participants at the race and their well being. The tool the company built following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, has been activated for use online.

Shortly after launching the Person Finder, more then 800 records have been available online. You can search by name or share information about someone’s whereabouts. For marathoners who are stranded in Boston due to cancellations in flights or other complications, Boston.com set up Google Doc where those can express need or offer their homes to guests. A very nice gesture by Google, in which the web helps those in need, due to this tragic event foreseen at the Monday Marathon.

At Pearl White Media, we offer our condolences to the families who have lost someone in the tragic event today.
